My idea for a music magazine was to blend classic rock into a more modern form of rock music. This is to attract a wide range of audience but still being dedicated to giving them what they want to read. This means that the classic rockers will want to read about their favourite bands as well as being introduced to some newer bands as well as people who enjoy modern rock will be introduced to classic rock in order to broaden their musical vocabulary and their appreciation for rock music. This will be achieved by including a "must download" list every week for people to read and be introduced to if they haven't already. This will be sponsored by iTunes which will create extra revenue by iTunes as it is advertising as well as giving people an interesting list for people to read about or possibly refresh their memory of.
The general idea of this magazine is to successfully attract people who read the magazine "classic rock" as well as the magazine "kerrang" and fuse the two together. The one problem that is easily noticeable is "to what extent do you call a band rock?" for example, starship were only classified as rock because of their most popular song "we built this city" which promotes rock without actually singing with a very rock sounding tone making it part of the "soft rock" sub genre. There is also the other side of the coin, for example slipknot who are classified in the general form of rock but are in fact death metal. This will have to be taken in to consideration because if the magazine does include these bands that are drastically different then in stead of luring the reader into a new form of music, they might view it as a waste of space and decide not to buy the magazine. This means that the magazine will have to be careful on what bands are selected to analyse.
